Hey guys! As more of you join, we’re just 10 subs shy of 300(!), I can’t thank you enough for making this one of the coolest corners of the internet. 🫶 The logic is simple: you’re cool; therefore, this must be cool too. That’s just math. Anyway.
Substack does this reader survey, and some of you have filled it out (which I so appreciate) What strikes me is that 80% (!) of you are here for community engagement. Which is wild, considering I don’t do podcasts, videos, or events (yet?). Emily Sundberg might be onto something in her latest FeedMe; arguing that personality might be on par with bringing value. In newsletter terms, that would mean opinion on information is more important than the mere act of sharing the information—wow, have I gotten tangled in this or what?
Speaking of sharing and opinions, have you listened to The Female Effect podcast? First of all, if you’re a woman—give it a go. Second of all, I think Julie is pretty badass, and not only for using Tyra Banks’ ANTM iconic and somewhat problematic quote as her podcast’s tagline.
Some housekeeping—I’m flipping the structure on its head a little: joys first, jobs second. I usually do the jobs first, and then I’m too burnt out to do anything around joys because surprise, surprise, NOTHING BRINGS IT at that stage. As scouring LinkedIn crevices is quite mechanical, and, let’s not be naive—AI should will probably take over that part soon, this is how things are going to be for a while. It’s also nicer to get it read by the text reader when you don’t get all the jobs and links read out loud to you.
That said, I hope this newsletter brings more than just job postings. I want it to feel like a community, a place to connect and find joy in the messy business of job hunting.
I’d love to hear from you—this newsletter is still just an email, after all, and I’m just a reply away.
So with that, welcome to the Groundhog Day edition of jobs & joys.
Joys
Things that ignite a spark so much, I’d love to share.
Recs
I’m so late to this, but: Wicked!!! What a performance. Stunning work, and I can’t wait to watch it again. And that is a rarity, to want to rewatch new things these days, I feel.
Also, I saw Babygirl in a fancy cinema in Carsberg, but it was definitely not for the plot or any other serious qualities. So, any cinephiles over here—leave me alone.
Lastly, the new Severance is out, or at least a few episodes. They are rationing it to us like we would binge it otherwise. Which now, come to think of it, is fair.
